On March 30, 1963, the inauguration of a British Postal Agency post office marked a significant event in Abu Dhabi’s postal history. Consequently, mail originating from Das Island, which had previously been routed through Bahrain, now bore the distinctive postmark “DAS ISLAND ABU DHABI TRUCIAL STATES.” This change coincided with the introduction of an official cachet applied to all “First Day Mail.” Notably, it is estimated that the number of these specially marked covers from Das Island did not exceed 200.

The British Postal Agency introduced definitive stamps for Abu Dhabi on March 30, 1964. These stamps, produced by the British Postal Agency, retained their validity and were observed in use until as late as July 1966.

On January 6, 1966, the Das Island post office commenced its operations, functioning as an agency under the administration of the oil company ADMA. During this period, stamps from Das Island bear distinct recognition solely through postmarks reading “Das Island” or “Abu Dhabi.”

On January 1, 1967, the sheikhdom of Abu Dhabi assumed control of both post offices, initiating the issuance of its own stamps.

Abu Dhabi gains independence and issues its first postage stamps. Notable stamp issues may include those featuring Sheikh Shakhbut bin Sultan Al Nahyan.

On July 18, 1971, seven Gulf sheikdoms, including Abu Dhabi, reached an agreement to establish the United Arab Emirates, effective from August 1, 1972. Abu Dhabi, now a vital part and the capital of the United Arab Emirates, saw its stamps replaced by those of the United Arab Emirates on January 1, 1973.
